There are many general spreads which are useful for various question types or when you are not certain what to choose. Every layout, no matter how classic have many variations which differs dependently on a reader. Below you find some chosen examples of popular general spreads and how I approach them. Remember, you don't have to study or understand a spread thoroughly, that is my assignment. Information on my page are for you to have some general view and choice, however if you need to know more, there are other sites and books to study that subcject (mentioned in other sections of my site). There is always more to any of spreads then what is shortly written below.
1. The Celtic Cross - is the oldest, most known and popular layout.
When: All types of questions, like: How would go with my plan, how it goes further, what would happen if, etc. If you don't know what spread you can use, go with this one (or with a modification of it).
10 cards, often create natural pairs:
1. Present situation/ the issue AND 2. What crosses you - what will help or hinder you.
3. Your subconsciouness (your inner truth) AND 5. Your consciousness (what you think)
4. Past/foundation AND 6. Near future, what is to expect.
7. The asker - his/her attitude toward the issue AND 8. Environment, others - how they influence the situation (positively or/and negatively).
9. Hopes or/and fears.
10. Likely/final/distant possible future outcome (COMPARED with 5. Near future).
2. Decision
When: You have two concrete decisions (X and Y) to make or decision to do something or not and want to check out what are the following results. This spread isn't suitable for yes/no questions. It shows a possible development after making a certain decision. As you can imagine, this is one of the very nicest and useful spreads. However it is important to remember that cards are only a help and you shouldn't use them to obsessively to check every life decision, your intuition must be in work as well.
7 - Significator of a situation and of an asker
1,3,5 - Those cards show the results of a first decision in proper order.
2,4,6 - Those cards show the results of a second decision in proper order or when you don't do what is asked above.
3. The Way - proposition of a behaviour.
When: How should I react? What should I do to achieve XYZ? Or more concrete, like: how could I improve my health?
1 - This is what it is about, chances, risks and factors tied to the question.
Left column - behaviour till now
2 - Conscious state, attitude, rational behaviour, thoughts, convictions, intentions. What an asker thinks or has thought.
3 - Subconscious state, attitude, emotional reaction, desires, dreams, hopes. What an asker feel or has felt.
4 - Outside stance. How an asker influences others.
Right column - proposition for future beahviour
5 - Conscious state, attitude, rational behaviour, thoughts, convictions, intentions.
6 - Subconscious state, attitude, emotional reaction, desires, dreams, hopes.
7 - Outside stance. How an asker influences others.
